Dennis Mohler of Camrose, passed away on Tuesday December 23, 2014 at the age of 73 years.
Dennis was born July 29th, 1941, in Camrose, Alberta and spent his entire life on the family farm just east of the city.
He was educated in Camrose, finishing his last year of High School in Red Deer. Dennis was an avid reader and kept himself well informed on current events, sports and politics.
In his younger years, Dennis played most team sports including hockey, basketball, football, and curling. Until recently, he enjoyed gardening and took pride in his success with grapes and wine making, fruit trees, and other plants which reflected his background in farming. He managed the family farm for several years when the land was rented out. Dennis also developed an interest in the area of pipe X-ray and was employed in this capacity at the Camrose pipe mill. Some of his work for the company allowed him to enjoy travel outside Canada.
Dennis had many collectibles such as old guns, pictures, sculptures and other memorabilia which were on display throughout his home. Some of his treasures were simply old or unique items obtained at local auctions or given to him. There was usually a story for each one. Dennis was also the de facto family historian, spending much time researching the family genealogy in county and state archives and cemeteries while on vacation throughout the United States, tracking down distant relatives. The family records he collected over many decades and the genealogical charts he prepared were both his passion and a treasured legacy.
Dennis enjoyed the company of his many friends in Camrose, and for several years they formed the social fabric of his life. His almost daily rounds in Camrose often included a crib game, debate and plenty of conversation over coffee.
In these last few years Dennis' health began to deteriorate but he managed to persevere until recently when those issues started to take a severe toll. He died peacefully while confined to a long term care facility in Camrose.
A Funeral service was held on Friday January 2, 2015 at 11:00 am from the Burgar Memorial Chapel. Interment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to St. Mary's hospital 4607 53rd street Camrose, T4V 1Y5, or to the charity of one's choice.
