Obituary of Andrea McBlain

Mrs. Andrea McBlain of Wetaskiwin , formerly of Camrose passed away on Thursday December 25, 2014 at the age of 82 years. Andrea was born September 24th, 1932 on the family farm in Quimper, Sk to Andrew and Charlotte Gammie. She was the youngest of four children. Andrea took her schooling in Quimper and upon completion started babysitting for local farm families. She was also a telephone operator prior to getting married and then became a full time wife and mother. Andrea married Robert McBlain in 1960 in Aneroid, Sk. They had two children - Sandra born in 1961 and Ian in 1965. Granddaughter Amanda arrived in 1978. Andrea and Robbie moved briefly to Chilliwack, BC after getting married, they then moved to Stettler, Ab where they stayed for 13 years. In 1975 they moved to Camrose where they resided until having to move into Good Shepherd Home in Wetaskiwin in 2008. Andrea was diagnosed with Lupus in 1976 and for 38 years battled through the disease with strength and dignity. The last five years having to face dialysis three times a week at the Wetaskiwin Hospital. Andrea enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, many hours were spent at the kitchen table playing board and card games. Andrea and Robbie loved to go to dances and listen to their favorite band The Foggy River Band - who they became friends with. Andrea also loved gardening and camping with her family. Andrea's proudest accomplishments were being a wife, mother and grandmother. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Robbie; daughter Sandra (Doug) of Wetaskiwin; son Ian (Linda) of Camrose; granddaughter Amanda (Ed); four step-grandchildren; six great step-grandchildren; sister-in-law Mary (Les); and numerous nieces and nephews. Andrea was predeceased by her parents Andrew and Lottie; siblings Helen, James, and Gladys. A funeral service was held on Saturday January 3, 2015, at 11:30 am from the Burgar Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. Interment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Kidney Foundation or to the LUPUS Foundation of Canada.
