Obituary of Carol Reum
Please share a memory of Carol to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carol Joan Reum was born on October 23, 1946 to Edward and Ruth Chappell. She grew up on the farm south of Ryley. She attended grade school at Shaw and then transferred to Ryley School. She was active in the Ryley 4-H Dairy Club and enjoyed showing her heifers at the Vegreville Fair. On October 22, 1966, she married Vern Reum at the United Church in Ryley and together they took over the Reum family farm and raised their three children, Terrie, Gloria and Calvin.
Carol worked at the Tofield Hospital as an Admitting Clerk for 25 years. During this time, she gained a whole new family of friends.
Over the past few years, Carol took to traveling which included a weekend adventure in Sooke, BC; listening to cowboy poetry at the Kamloops Cowboy Festival, experiencing the desert and cactus in Arizona, road trip to Colorado, soaking in the Hot Springs in Thermopolis, WY; attended the Cody Nite Rode in Cody, WY, dog sledding in Canmore and travelled to Oregon with her high school girl friends for class reunion.
Carol loved her grandchildren and was active in all their activities. You rarely saw her without one of them. She cheered for Caitlyn out on the soccer field, attended Carson's hockey games, helped Taylor with her 4-H horse project; and chased pigs with Hunter. She was always ready to go riding with Taylor and Hunter or go stay for the weekend with Caitlyn and Carson.
On February 3, 2015, Carol passed away peacefully in her sleep after a long and painful battle with lung and bone cancer. She is survived by her daughters Terrie and Gloria (Scott); her son Calvin; four grandchildren: Caitlyn, Taylor, Carson and Hunter; sister Lillian Grinde; brothers Zale, George (Colleen), Donald (Kim); and special Uncle Stan.
Carol was predeceased by her husband Vern Reum; parents Ed and Ruth Chappell; sister Marilyn Tiedemann; nephew Greg Chappell and niece Bonny Grinde.
Carol will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
