Obituary of Raymond Samoisette
Please share a memory of Raymond to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ray was born June 4, 1931 near Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan. He was the fifth of eight children. He passed away on February 17, 2015 at his home in Camrose.
Ray married Mildred on May 2, 1964 in Calgary and resided there until moving to Camrose in 1978. In 1982 they bought a small farm in Round Hill, then after Mildred's passing Ray moved back to Camrose.
He loved to work, this was his hobby. He always wanted to be doing something, whether he was cutting grass or just tinkering outside. As a welder, he worked pipeline and in various shops building everything from bridges to vac trucks and pressure vessels. He also worked as a butcher for Mildred's brothers when they first moved to Camrose.
He was a man of few words, however you always knew where you stood by the "look", or the grin and sparkle in his eyes. Whether it was sitting quietly in the stands watching his grandchildren play ball or winning that crib game by one point, you would always see that little grin. It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words, with Ray his "look" was worth two…smarten up.
His daily routine consisted of reading the paper for six to seven hours, taking his daily drive to see how everything was going around town, and his two glasses of beer at 6 p.m. at the Norsemen. This was something that rarely changed.
He loved watching baseball, curling, and golf on TV, and also looked forward to dog sitting the family pets.
Ray is survived by his son Paul and his wife Lee Ann; his grandchildren Cameron, Chad, and Kelsie and her husband Greg; brothers Alex, Leonard, Andre; his sisters Armande, Gracia (Larry), and Claire (Art); three sisters-in-law Shaaron, Lavina, Dorreen; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Mildred; his parents Rosa and Oscar; and his brother Louis.
Ray will be loved and deeply missed by family and friends. Your comfort and support are greatly appreciated and gratefully acknowledged.
A Funeral Service was held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 23, 2014 from Messiah Lutheran Church with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. Interment followed in the Camrose Cemetery.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Arthritis Society.
