Obituary of Julia Kontek

Julia Agnes Kontek, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully March 2, 2015 at the age of 101 years. Julia was born on February 9, 1914 to parents John and Agnes Vioncek. On January 7, 1939, Julia married Mike Kontek. Their marriage was blessed with two sons and two daughters; Ben, Stan, Elizabeth, and Gloria. Julia, Mike, and family farmed in the Polska area until 1974 when they moved to Camrose. Julia always worked hard even as a young girl helping with the field work. She enjoyed gardening and cooking very much. In her spare time Julia loved playing the button accordion and harmonica. She was a very prayerful and thankful lady and was very active in the CWL. Julia is survived by her son Stan (Marion) Kontek of Camrose; daughter Elizabeth Kontek of Edmonton; three grandchildren Shelley (Ken), Wayne (Rhonda), and Laurie (Jen); four great-grandchildren Branden, Tyson, Erin, and William; and many nephews and nieces. Julia was predeceased by her husband Mike of 67 years in 2006; daughter Gloria in 2000; son Ben in 2001; daughter-in-law Marlene; grandson Kevin in 1980; as well as her parents Matt and Ann Szott; seven sisters Katherine, Annie, Nellie, Francis, Rose, Agnes and Josie; and three brothers Louie, John, and Peter. Julia's memory will always be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let the light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 5, 2015 from St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Nilo Macapinlac as celebrant. Interment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Camrose and District Hospice Society, or to St. Mary's Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
