Obituary of Laurie Snell

Please share a memory of Laurie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Laurie Dale Snell of Camrose passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at the age of 62 years. Laurie Dale Snell was born November 4, 1952 in Camrose, Alberta. Camrose was his home and it was there that he met the Zubkowskis, a family which became close and dear to him. Laurie was a hard-worker and held multiple jobs at various places. At the age of twelve, he worked as a gasoline attendant where his interest in cars grew. Eventually, he started racing at the Wetaskiwin Speedway. He settled down working at Campipe for over thirty years and became a member of the Quarter Century Club -- a club for employees who worked for more than twenty-five years with the steel mill. Laurie enjoyed attending the club's banquet held in November of every year. He met Asuncion through a friend from Wetaskiwin while she was living in British Columbia. Laurie and Asuncion fell in love, got married, and were together for twenty two years. They both became an important part of the Camrose Filipino community. Laurie's kind, generous, and helpful attitude drew people to him. Everyone in the Filipino community loved him and nicknamed him "Uncle". Retiring at the age of fifty four, he found the time to do things he valued the most. He enjoyed long drives, home renovation, carpentry, gardening, cooking and visiting family and friends. Laurie also loved listening to country music and fishing. To all the family and friends who visited Asuncion during this difficult time, your presence and support are greatly appreciated. Laurie is survived by his wife Asuncion; his sisters Mary (Robbie Davies), Mabel (predeceased brother-in-law Bruce Kneeland), and Mona. He was predeceased by parents William and Emma, and brothers William, Marian, and Maitland. Laurie will be greatly missed, but always remembered by his family and friends. A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 14, 2015 from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev Brian Hunter officiating. Cremation took place following the service. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to S.T.A.R.S., the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to the charity of one's choice.
