Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Shirley Marie Lowen of Camrose passed away on Monday March 16, 2015 at the age of 77 years.
On May 2, 1937 Gina and Arvid Nelson were blessed with their first child Shirley Marie. She grew up in Wetaskiwin where she met the man of her dreams James Lowen. They were married on April 15, 1958 and resided in Wetaskiwin. They began their journey of life together with three children Kim, Scott, and Candace which they raised in Camrose until 1975. They then moved back to Wetaskiwin. In 1981 Jim's job took them to the Brazeau Dam, where they remained until 1993. Their retirement headed them back to their roots in Camrose, where they have many friends and family. Shirley was very instrumental in the upbringing of her grandchildren's lives.
Shirley started her battle with cancer in 2010, and determination kept her with her loved ones for her remaining five years. She will be deeply missed in all the lives she touched so dearly. Her beautiful smile was graciously adored by all that she knew.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Jim; children Kim (Larry) Bailey of Hay Lakes, Scott (Rhonda) Lowen of Kelowna, and Candace (Alyn) Sandberg of Bittern Lake; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother James (Johanne) Nelson of Camrose; and sister Mary Ann Pawliuk of Camrose.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents Arvid and Gina; one brother Neil; sister-in-law Gladys Nelson; and brother-in-law Mervin Kerwer.
A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 23, 2015 from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Alberta Diabetes Foundation, or to the Stollery Children's Hospital.
