Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joyce Nichols was born on July 20th, 1940 to Irvin and Irene Cox in Camrose, Alberta. She passed away on March 25, 2015 in St Mary's Hospital at the age of 74. Joyce spent the first eleven years in the Rosalind area before moving to California with her family to start a dairy farm in Lodi. In 1957 they sold the dairy farm and moved to Susanville California to run a feed store. It is here that Joyce finished her schooling, started at junior college and continued to work at the family business. In 1969 Joyce moved back to Alberta to marry Delbert Nichols. In 1970 they welcomed their first daughter Sandra; in 1973 they completed their family when their second daughter Denise was born. Joyce took great pride in her home and family. Joyce helped on the family farm, driving grain truck, harvesting a huge garden and raising upwards to 100 chickens a year. She enjoyed cake decorating, making homemade chocolates and painting ceramics. When Sandra and Denise joined the Rosalind 4-H clothing club so did Joyce. Helping out where she could and eventually becoming one of the leaders. Later her grandchildren become her pride and joy, attending every school function, watching dance recitals, hockey and baseball games cheering and giving the officials trouble if needed. Joyce was always the gracious host whether it was family from California or friends dropping by for tea or coffee. She was always glad when someone stopped in for a visit. Her compassion for others showed though sitting with others while in the hospital or driving someone to a doctor's appointment. Joyce leaves to mourn her daughters, Sandra (Tony) Penney and Denise (Steve) Williams; four grandchildren, Taylor and Jacob Penney and Evan and Morgan Williams; one sister Donna (Jim) Kindle; one brother Floyd (Grace) Cox. Also one sister-in-law Ellen Thirsk, one brother-in-law Don (Linda) Sheets. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Predeceased by her husband Delbert Nichols; her parents Irvine and Irene Cox; mother and father in-law Roy and Robina; one brother Allan Cox; and three sister-in-laws, Ila Lotzer, Gail Cox and Connie Sheets. Joyce is survived by her two daughters; Sandra (Tony) Penney of Sherwood Park and Denise (Steve) Williams of New Norway, four grandchildren;Taylor Penney, Jacob Penney, Evan Williams and Morgan Williams, one brother and one sister.
