Gwen McCarroll passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Bethany Meadows, Camrose, on April 2, 2015, at the age of 99 years. Gwen was born in Strome on April 25, 1915, to Harry and Clara (Thirsk) Phipps, and she had one brother, Rodney. In 1939, she was united in marriage to Gordon McCarroll. They farmed for many years at Daysland. Gwen attended Camrose Normal School, taught in the Haydon, Salt Lake, and Daysland Schools, and was always busy with her family. She enjoyed horses, and encouraged her family's involvement in trail riding, gymkhanas, chariot racing, and team roping. She attended church regularly and was strengthened by her faith in God.
Gwen is survived by her children: Jaclyn (Morris Candlish) of Daysland, Rod (Ingrid) of Calgary, Judy (Ken Purches) of Beaumont, Victor (Marilyn) of Rosalind, Pat Curtis of Strome, Rock (Heather) of Daysland, Dirk (Shelley) of Camrose, 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren who will long remember her with love.
She was predeceased by: her husband, Gordon, her parents, Harry and Clara Phipps, her brother Rodney Phipps, and her son-in-law, Bruce Curtis.

A Funeral service was held on Saturday April 11,2015, at 2:00 pm from Century Meadows Baptist Church 3720 66 street Camrose, with Rev. Garth Wehrfritz-Hanson officiating.
Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Birch Cottage at Bethany Meadows or to a charity of one's choice.
