Obituary of J. H. Cue Morrison
Please share a memory of J. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mr. Cue Morrison of Calgary passed away on Monday, April 20, 2015 at the age of 82 years.
Cue was born and raised in Hardisty, Alberta, one of six children of James and Helen Morrison. He is one of those rare individuals who has lived all of his life in Alberta, although his pipelining career has taken him all over the continent for various projects.
"Cueball" joined the construction company on the Mannix/Sparling Pipeline Davis joint venture, building the first Interprovincial heading east from Hardisty and west to Edmonton. Over the next decade, Cue was Bending Engineer, Side-boom operator, Foreman Assistant Superintendent, Project Manager and Chief Inspector on various pipeline jobs in that division of Mannix Construction and then Loram International Ltd. In 1955 he worked on the pipeline gathering system that became Pembina Pipe Line Ltd. In 1970 Cue moved into the head offices of the company, and he was Superintendent on the Esso lines in Edmonton. In 1973 he was again Superintendent on a number of loops built by Loram International for Westcoast Transmission between Hope and Fort Nelson, B.C. Cue also worked on the Loram team that built pipelines for B.C. Hydro and IPL between Cornwall and Brockville, Ontario. Cue left the organization in 1976, but carried on his pipelining activities with Flint and Williams Brothers. From 1979 to 1993 Cue worked for Pembina as Chief Inspector on numerous pipeline projects. His last project for the Loram Group was in 1993 ending a career that spanned 43 years. However, he continued to be active in the industry until 2001, when he finally retired after working on a project where he had first started, Hardisty.
He married Maxine White in 1956. They had two children Tracy and Sandi; four grandchildren Dustin (Shandy), Jenna (Cam), Colton, and Bailey; and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn his passing his brother Bryan Morrison of Edmonton; and sisters Yvonne (Ken) Starling of Cranbrook, and Bev Conzevoy of Kelowna.
Cue was predeceased by his brother Lorne, and sister LaVerne Launder.
A Funeral Service was held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2015 from Calvary Pentecostal Church (4920 48 St) with Jeff Miller officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted in lieu of flowers to the Canadian Cancer Society RE: Esophageal Cancer Research.
