Obituary of Gerlinde Cegielny
Please share a memory of Gerlinde to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gerlinde Jutta Cegielny of Camrose, formerly of Lac La Nonne, concluded her adventures in life on June 10, 2015.
She was born October 8, 1941 to loving parents Erich and Gertrud Jahns in Berlin, Germany. In 1965, she and her new husband Claus began their 50 years of marriage by immigrating to Canada and settling in Edmonton. Once her two children were school aged, "Mrs. C" spent the majority of her career as an elementary school secretary with Edmonton Catholic Schools and as a chairperson for the Alberta Education Attendance Board. She cherished the students, colleagues and families she served and whose lives she touched. In 1973, the family purchased their beloved lake lot at Lac La Nonne, where she enjoyed nearly every weekend, moving there to retire in 2001. In addition to nurturing her love for world travel, her time retired at the lake was spent communing with nature, socializing with dear friends on Duncan Road, walking Nelly, and seeking out the best spots to pick mushrooms. In 2014, Gerlinde moved to Camrose to be closer to her family. A woman of great integrity and inner strength, Gerlinde will be remembered for not only her love of life, music, sport, and culture but also for her eternal optimism, independence, generosity and wonderful sense of humour.
Left to honour and live on in her spirit are her husband Claus; children Thomas (Kathleen) Cegielny of Red Deer, and Petra Cegielny (Sean Moore) of Camrose; sister Ortraud Wentzlaff and niece Kerstin Wentzlaff (Aylin Nacar) of Berlin, Germany; and many dear friends.
Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 9, 2015 from the University of Alberta, Augustana Campus Chapel (4901 - 46 Avenue, Faith & Life Centre, Camrose, Alberta) with Rev. Bill Harder officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Cross Cancer Institute.
