Shirley Anne Broughton of Camrose, formerly of Meeting Creek, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the age of 84 years.
Shirley was born on September 1, 1930 to Alexander and Grace French. The family lived on a mixed farm near Dinant. She graduated from nursing school in 1954 and nursed in Stettler before marrying William Broughton in 1956. They operated a mixed farm near Meeting Creek where she was actively involved. After raising her family, she resumed her nursing career in 1976 and continued for many years. Shirley was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing rounds with friends and family. She also enjoyed playing and coaching baseball, curling, bowling and watching sports on TV. She was always ready for a card game and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles but what was most important to her was spending time with her family.
Shirley is survived by her children Deb; Barb (Bruce) Carlson and their children, Lisa (Landon) Folz, Warren (Kim), Craig (Erica); Marilyn (Terry) Johannson and their children Julie (Dan) Gray, Melissa (Paul) Hallman, Amy, Cherisse; Greg (Heather) and their children Cody (Charlene), Jennifer, and Scott; Isabelle (Paul) Konschuh and their daughters Karlee and Kelsey; Charlie (Rhonda), and their daughters Brittney and Brooke. She has seven great grandchildren Hailey and Mazie Hallman, Audrey and Henry Folz, Alexandra and Eloise Carlson, and Brie Carlson. She is also survived by her brother Wayne French and her sister Isabelle Sliter, and sister-in-law Phyllis (Bob) Munson and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband William, her brother Hazen, and her twin sister Caroline.
A Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 7, 2015 from the Calvary Pentecostal Church (4920 48St Camrose, Ab) with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. Interment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Heart and Stroke Foundation Cancer Research, or to the charity of one's choice.
