Obituary of Florence "Beth" Greenwood

Please share a memory of Florence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Florence "Beth" Greenwood passed away peacefully in the early hours of September 11, 2015 at the age of 85 years. Being a descendant of one of Alberta's pioneer families, Beth was born at the Viking Hospital, the second child of five children, to the late William Dodds Johnston and his wife, Florence (nee Juett) Johnston. She was married at 16 and began a farm life with Dave near Kinsella where they raised their six children. The constant stream of friends and family prompted her description of the farm as "grand central station". In 1973, a move to Camrose with the two youngest children, brought a new career at Bethany Nursing Home and many new friends made with her warmth and sense of humor. Retirement with Dave was full of many happy years of motorhome trips to Fairmont Hot Springs and other local areas. Beth faced many health issues with both determination and a realistic focus. Surviving cancer, a broken pelvis, and loss of her sight were just a few of life's challenges. Her spirit of overcoming challenges and positively facing life's experiences is to be admired. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the health professionals and staff at the Camrose Hospital. Left to cherish her memory are her children Dodds Greenwood of Holden, Blaine (Dee) of Lethbridge, Glen (Barb) of Irma, Leone (Gordon) Thurston of Irma, Coreen Drescher (Daniel Speirs) of Calgary, and Linda (Kevin) Stang of Edmonton; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Florence was predeceased by her husband Dave; parents William and Florence Johnston; two brothers William Johnston and Raymond Johnston; and two sisters Yvonne Greenwood and Wyonne White. A Celebration of Beth's Life was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 19, 2015 from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. Inurnment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Canadian Cancer Society, or to the health charity of one's choice.
