Obituary of Brenda Leicht
Please share a memory of Brenda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Brenda Marie Leicht passed away quietly on October 8th, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital in Camrose at the age of 53 after a brave battle with cancer.
Brenda was born on November 24, 1961 in Camrose, 20 minutes before her twin brother Bruce. The doctors decided the twins should remain in the hospital for awhile to get bigger. They then went home to the family farm where they would grow up.
In spite of being raised on a farm she did not enjoy certain tasks on the farm such as gardening. She was much happier riding her bike over the field to play with her cousins, spending time with her favorite cats, playing cards and board games or reading a good book.
Brenda took all of her schooling at Hay Lakes. She attended Sunday school and was confirmed at St. Joseph Lutheran Church. She was involved in Brownies and played in the first girls hockey team in Hay Lakes. Brenda was a good student who was well liked by her classmates and teachers. Throughout her life, everyone liked Brenda. Shortly after high school she got a job with the Alberta Government as a file clerk. Over the next 30 plus years she worked her way up to a Team Lead position and earned the respect and admiration of her co-workers. While Brenda lived in Hay Lakes she was very active in the community, especially ladies fastball, the mixed slow pitch league and she also curled for many years. Later her interests became golfing, fishing, camping and garage sales. Brenda was always up for a night of bingo or card playing and was usually lucky at her favorite slot machine. Brenda was a very easy-going person but she was no push over. Being loyal and trustworthy, she had a close group of friends who valued her compassion, understanding and humor.
No one could ever have asked for a better daughter or sister. Her love and concern were limitless and she put her family before herself. If you needed something she was there regardless. Even when she was sick, her concern for her family was endless . Brenda's big smile and bright blue eyes will be truly missed.
Brenda is survived by her devoted father Vern; brothers Brian, and Bruce (Janice); her sister Cathy (Tom); her nephews Bruce Jr. (Tammy), Chad, and Daniel; nieces Stephanie and Melisa; great-nephews Braden and Grayson; and her great-niece Kailey.
She will be fondly remembered by her special friends Susan, Jennifer, Laurie and Deanna.
Brenda was predeceased by her mother Berdine.
A Celebration of Life was held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 14, 2015 from Messiah Lutheran Church (4810-50 St. Camrose). A private inurnment service was held at the St. Joseph's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Society, 11728 Kingsway NW, Edmonton, AB, T5G 0X5, or to the charity of one's choice.
