Obituary of Evelyn "Donnie" Schmidt

Mrs. Donnie Schmidt of Camrose, formerly of Kingman passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015 at the age of 90 years.
Donnie was born in Port Arthur, Ontario, now known as Thunder Bay, on April 21st, 1925 to Jessie and Silas Pearson. In the spring of 1929 Donnie and her family traveled west from Manatoulin Island to Alberta where they settled in the Tofield area.
Donnie attended primary grades at Ingram school, then Tofield School where she later graduated. From here she moved to post secondary studies obtaining her teaching qualifications.
As a young woman Donnie began teaching in Northern Alberta and various country schools in the area, namely Avonroy, Farmington and Coal Hill where she boarded with the Boettger family.
In November 1946 she married Homer Schmidt of Kingman and to this union one daughter Denise was born. Donnie and Homer built their farming operation, and when Denise was a bit older Donnie returned to teaching in Round Hill until her retirement in 1979.
After retirement, Donnie and Homer spent lots of time with their team of horses participating in parades, wagon trains and trail rides. They enjoyed travelling extensively in their motor home to places like Alaska, Mexico, Ontario and the United States visiting family and friends.
In 2004 Donnie suffered two severe strokes and a heart attack. In 2010 she moved into care at Faith House in Camrose, and in 2012 to Sunrise Village until her passing.
Left to mourn her memory are her daughter Denise, son-in-law Jim Otto of Kingman, granddaughter Kyla (Rob) Coe of Kingman, grandson Kurtis Otto of Edmonton, sister-in-law Mavis Pearson of Arizona as well as many nephews, nieces, friends and the staff of Sunrise Village.
She was predeceased in September 1996 by her husband Homer, her parents, brothers Harold and Keith Pearson, along with one infant brother.

Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2015 from The Salem Lutheran Church in Kingman with Rev. Dan Berg officiating. Interment has taken place in The Kingman Cemetery.
