Obituary of John "Jack" Wallis

John "Jack" Humphrey Wallis of Camrose, Alberta passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at the age of 94 years.
Jack was born in Daysland on June 17, 1921 to John and Elizabeth Wallis. He grew up and completed all his schooling in Daysland. In the spring of 1941 he volunteered for active service with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Following training, he was stationed in Sealand, England where he served as a radar mechanic until the war ended in 1945.
After the war he returned to Daysland and set up a Radio Repair Shop - Wallis Electric. On November 17, 1947 he married Louise Anderson from the Kelsey area. While living in Daysland they had two children, Kay and Larry. In 1954 the family moved to Camrose where Jack resided for the rest of his life. He worked in a variety of vocations, the last being as insurance agent for Canada Life Assurance Company. Louise died in 2003 after living many years with MS; she resided in the Bethany Long Term Care Centre for over 40 years in order to receive the health care she required.
In 2011 Jack moved to Faith House and in the Spring of 2015, after a lengthy illness in hospital, was admitted to Bethany Meadows Cedar Cottage where he resided until his passing.
Jack was a well-rounded athlete and enjoyed participating in baseball, curling and golf. He was proud to be a life member of the Northern Alberta Curling Association. When asked, he was always willing to pass on his knowledge, support and expertise in sports and life to his children and grandchildren.
Jack was also proud to be a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Left to cherish Jack's memory are his daughter Kay (Dave) Steblyk of Camrose, son Larry (Eileen) Wallis of Courtney, B.C.; five grandchildren, Derek, Michelle, Andrew, Tom and Dean; and five great-grandchildren, Jordin, Tommy, Mya, Jaylee and Bailey. He was predeceased by his wife, his sister and brother-in-law Mary and Maurice Berry, and many friends.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 2 pm from the Camrose United Church with Rev. Alan Richards and Rev. Liz Carter-Morgan officiating. Inurnment took place in the Camrose Cemetery.
