Obituary of Grace Borgstrom

Grace Borgstrom of Camrose, formerly of Meeting Creek, passed away on Saturday December 5, 2015 at the age of 94 years. Grace was born on September 19, 1921, the third child of a family of seven to Robert and Laura Hoefling. She was predeceased by her parents, five siblings, her husband Melvin and son-in-law Gunther Schaar. She is survived by her daughter Gail (Art) Pfeiffer and their children, Karen (Rick) Webster, David (Sheena) Pfeiffer, Lori (Vince) Van Dyk, and Lisa (Aran) McCullagh; her daughter Sandra Schaar, (Gunther who passed away on May 15, 2011) and their children Randy (Darlene) Schaar, Steven (Lori) Schaar and Wendy (Michael) Schaar-Ney. She is also survived by her sister Violet Throndson and fifteen great-grandchildren. Grace grew up on the family farm in the Bawlf area. Her childhood was not easy because her family moved so many times. After she married at the age of seventeen, she and Melvin moved to the Meeting Creek area where Melvin worked as a farm laborer until they purchased the Larson farm near Meeting Creek. They were active members of the Lutheran Church in Meeting Creek and then in Edberg. The farm at Meeting Creek was their home for fifty-three years until their move to Camrose in 2001. Melvin passed away in 2001 and Grace lived in their Camrose home until 2012 when she moved into Deer Meadows. Grace will be remembered as a kind, caring, unselfish person who put others' interests ahead of her own. Over the years, Grace made many quilts for Lutheran World Relief and for her children and grandchildren. She made the best beef roasts and loved to garden and pick berries. A funeral service was held on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 2 pm from Messiah Lutheran Church. Interment has taken place in the Meeting Creek Cemetery.
