Kathleen Ann Throndson was born in Camrose on November 12, 1932 to Violet and Robert Rasmussen. She passed away peacefully on January 6, 2016 at the Louise Jensen Care Center at the age of 83 years.
Kay was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended Camrose Lutheran College and graduated from the Misericordia School of Nursing. In 1957 she was united in marriage to Wilbur Throndson. They lived on the family farm until 1974 at which time they moved to their home in Camrose. Kay began her job as an RN at the Smith Clinic where she would remain until her retirement.
Kay was actively involved in the Armena community as a softball coach, Sunday School Teacher, Girls choir director and in various church groups. She liked to read and do crossword puzzles in her spare time, and had a great love for working in her yard. Kay was an avid fan of the Edmonton Oilers and greatly enjoyed watching curling and golf!
Kay was predeceased by her parents Robert and Violet; two brothers Adair, and Gordon Rasmussen; a sister Gladys Osness; and her son-in-law Tim Burrell.
She is survived by her daughter Bev Throndson of Leduc; her son Steven Throndson of Edmonton; two cherished grandchildren Sarah (Jay) Schultz of Standard, and Benjamin (Jessica) Burrell of Beaumont; four great-grandchildren Braden and Ethan Schultz, and Abigail and Hank Burrell; two brothers Don and Ken Rasmussen; and one sister Viola Throndson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Kay will always be remembered for her warm and generous spirit, her faith in God, and her sense of humour. Even in recent years while facing many challenges, she was always quick to laugh and smile and never lost her sense of humour.
She loved her grandkids! She felt a great sense of pride and peace in the fact that they were doing well, had wonderful spouses, and were great parents to her four beautiful great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 1:00 pm from Messiah Lutheran Church with Bev Swanson officiating. Inurnment will take place at the Camrose Cemetery at a later date.
