Please share a memory of Janet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Janet Aurora Snyder of Camrose passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the age of 91 years. Left to cherish her memory are her son Gordon Snyder of Camrose and two grandchildren, Amy and Ben. Janet was the daughter of Swedish immigrants and grew up on a farm near Ferintosh, Alberta. She joined the RCAF, WD from June 1943 until June 1946 where she was trained as a stenographer. Then she married and raised a family, travelling to Alaska, BC, Alberta, and then finally to Toronto, Ontario where she worked as a medical stenographer for many years. She worked mainly for Toronto General Hospital and St. Michael's Hospital. When she retired, she returned to Camrose to enjoy her home community and flew to Florida as a snowbird over many winters. Her father eventually left farming and moved to Ferintosh where he was the Mayor for about a decade. Her brother Roy died in action in 1942 as a RCAF tail gunner on a return run back to England from a bombing mission. Janet was predeceased by her parents Nils and Esther Erickson, husbands (Joe Snyder, Tony Sokoloski), daughter Madeline (Harry Moncrieff, Doug Grover), three brothers, Roy Erickson, Clarence (Marguerite) Erickson, Richard (Jewel) Erickson, and grandson Theo Moncrieff. At Janet's request, no funeral service will be held. Her ashes will be interned at a memorial celebration at Highland Park Cemetery near New Norway on the afternoon of June 9, 2016. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, STARS Air Ambulance, or Donalda Cemetery Club.
