Joan Marie McArthur of Edmonton, formerly of Camrose passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the age of 62 years.
Joan was born on February 26, 1953 to Worthy and Oleeta Martin in Lac La Biche, Alberta. The family moved to Cold Lake for a short period of time, then moved to Edmonton until 1967, then they moved to Grand Center, Alberta where she attended high school.
In 1971 she married Tom, and they were blessed with a daughter, Kerri, in 1972, and son, Shawn, in 1975.
During her life she worked various jobs including retail, the banking industry and finally as the Resident Manager of an apartment building in West Edmonton which she loved. Above all else she was firstly a mother. Family was the most important part of her life and her two grandchildren, Josh and Caden Franz (Kerri) were the joys of her life who called her Damma.
Joan enjoyed crocheting, baking with the grandkids, camping and travelling. The travelling resulted in trips covering seven provinces from Dawson City, Yukon to Montreal, Quebec as well as the Western US. But Las Vegas was a favourite where the wine was free. During most weekends and summer vacations, the trips were as a "family".
Joan passed away suddenly at the age of 62 from a heart attack. She leaves to mourn her husband of 45 years Tom, her children Kerri Franz and Shawn McArthur, grandchildren Josh and Caden Franz, sister Cathi (Leo) Pratch, brother Robert (Ruby) Martin, brother-in-law Tony Murphy, and their families.
Joan was predeceased by her mom, Oleeta, in 1987 and her dad, Worthy, in 2005 and sister, Val (Murphy), in 2009.
A Funeral Service was held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from the CityLights Church (4920 48 St Camrose). Inurnment will take place at a later date.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to the charity of one's choice.
