Obituary of Merna Orr
Please share a memory of Merna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Merna was born to Martin and Alice Myrmo on January 8, 1940 in Camrose, Alberta and died at the age of 76 on February 7, 2016. Merna grew up in the Gladstone district and attended school in Gladstone until grade 8 and then finished school in Bawlf.
Merna worked at Price's Bakery in Camrose. She met Gordon Orr through his sister, Marion, who also worked there. Gordon and Merna were married on April 22, 1960. They had four children Mickey, Carrie, Colleen and Rodger. They lived on the Orr family farm for a short time until they moved to a farm near Donalda. Merna worked hard raising animals, milking cows, grain farming and had a large garden. Merna loved to join in with Gordon when he sang and played guitar. They hosted many family gatherings on the farm. Gordon passed away in 1987 and Merna sold the farm and moved to Camrose. Her main concern was ensuring Rodger was well cared for and working towards some independence. Merna was very involved with the Camrose Association for Community Living and for a period of time, sat on their Board.
Merna met Walter Kerr in 1988. They enjoyed camping together, travelling, playing games and going to the casino.
Merna spent much of her life taking care of others and putting their needs ahead of her own.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her partner, Walter Kerr; her children Carrie (Doug) Cunningham, Colleen (John) Marcinkowski and Rodger Orr; Her step-children Sonja (Mario) Dykslag, Cheryl (Steve) Fitchie, Sandra (Chris) Howard and James Kerr; Eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; Eight step-grandchildren; Her siblings Vivian Larson, Kenneth Myrmo, Joyce Elliott, Viola Roberts, Marlene Thompson and numerous nieces and nephews. Merna was predeceased by her parents Martin and Alice Myrmo, her husband Gordon Orr, son Mickey Orr and sister Lois Myrmo.
At Merna's request, a private family Graveside Service has been held.
