Jacob Elwin "Woody" Heikamp was born in Wolfe Island, Ontario on August 17, 1962 to Jacob and Carolyn Heikamp. He was the only son of three children. He passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at the age of 53 years. Woody was raised and worked on various dairy farms on Wolfe Island until he was 17. In 1980, he moved west to Calgary along with his parents, two sisters and Joe Staley. Woody worked with his dad doing metal cladding and construction. He worked for a period of time for Alberta Wheat Pool before he and his parents purchased a gas station and café in Mossleigh, Alberta. In 1985, he met Hazel Briscoe (in Mossleigh) and they moved to Camrose in 1987 where he was employed by Alberta Wheat Pool. He and Hazel were married in 1989. To this marriage, Kari Michelle was born in 1991, and Jared Elwin was born in 1994. Woody resigned from the Alberta Wheat Pool, and started a construction business which he continued until 2006 when he started his trucking business. Woody was an active member of the Ohaton Athletic Association since the mid 1990's. In 2011, Woody and Sheila Wilson started their life together. Woody welcomed his first grandson Carson Logan in 2013, and his second grandson Blake Austin in 2015. He adored his grandsons and was a very proud Opa. Woody is survived by his loving companion Sheila; his daughter Kari Heikamp (Brad Poyser); son Jared; grandsons Carson and Blake; sisters Susan Staley and Tammy Heikamp (JoAnne); step-children Rochelle (Cam) Birkhiem, and Adam (Ashley) Leibel; nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles; and the mother of his children Hazel Heikamp. He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Carolyn, and his brother-in-law Joseph Staley. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 11:00 am from the Ohaton Community Hall with Reverend Brian Hunter officiating. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
