Obituary of Malcolm Betts

Please share a memory of Malcolm to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Malcolm was born February 21st, 1934, in Montreal, Quebec. He had two brothers and two sisters. He was married to his loving wife, Joan, in June 1955 and they were blessed with four children. His greatest love besides his family was fishing, hockey and refereeing to pass the winter months. After working several years in Montreal he decided to move his family to the Laurentians, where they could enjoy the beauty of the countryside. The next move was to Fort McMurray, Alberta, where he spent 18 years working at Syncrude. By this time the family had made roots in Alberta, so retirement in Camrose seemed like the perfect choice. Life was good in Camrose, he worked as hockey goal judge for the Kodiaks, spent the summer working as the marshall at the Camrose Golf course. In 2013 he suffered a stroke, which ended his hockey and golf activities, but you could still see him pushing his walker everyday to go and enjoy a coffee with friends. Malcolm passed away February 26th, 2016, with his loving family by his side. Malcolm is survived by his loving wife Joan; four children Michael (Wendy) of Bracebridge, Ontario, Wendy (Barry) Toms of Bittern Lake, Gail Betts of Airdrie and Malcolm Jr. (Lori) of Blackfalds, Alberta; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters Irene Singer of Calgary, Lois (Doug) Farquharson of Sherwood Park; and numerous relatives and friends. Malcolm was predeceased by his mother and father Mary and Malcolm Sr., and two brothers Tommy and Gordon. A funeral service was held on Saturday March 12, 2016 at 1:00 pm from St. Andrews Anglican Church (4713 50th street Camrose) with Rev. Jacques Vaillancourt officiating. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to the charity of one's choice.
