Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
George William Cormack of Camrose, formerly of Calgary, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the age of 75 years. George Cormack was born in Calgary, Ab on October 3, 1940 to Kathleen and George Cormack. George had just finished a stint on a offshore oil rig on the Vancouver coast when he met his wife Gloria. They were set up on a blind date and not long after they were married and starting their life together. Together they managed an apartment building while George got his teaching degree at The University of Calgary. They had three children while they lived in Calgary. George's teaching career took them to Rainbow Lake, Lougheed and Bawlf, until they finally settled in Camrose and had two more children. He eventually went back to work in the oil patch working his way up to Engineer, consultant and finally to owning his own Oilfield Service company. George led an active life with work and family. He cherished spending time with his family, cousins, aunts and uncles and friends. Those that knew George loved his infectious laughter and he always had that special twinkle in his eyes. He was as kind to his family as those who he worked with. In his later years George's pride and joy was his children and his seven grandchildren. He enjoyed taking trips out to Victoria and sightseeing with his wife Gloria. George also enjoyed his acreage in Camrose that had been the family home for 30 years. He loved to go out on his quad or lawn mower and he would spend hours outside cleaning up and puttering around. Cutting grass as the sun was setting was also a favorite of his. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 48 years, Gloria; children Derek (Ania) of Calgary, Jaeger of Vancouver, Serena (Jeff) of Calgary and Brandon (Lesia) of Parry Sound; and seven grandchildren. George was predeceased by his daughter Amber and his parents Kathleen and George. A private family gathering and funeral service has been held. If friends and family so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to The Tom Baker Cancer Centre.
