As an 18 year old Nova Scotian (in 1977) with a newly acquired summer job on an oil rig in the Camrose area, Lorenz and Joyce took me in and provided lodging/food, ostensibly in return for some work on their farm. They saw in me a kindred spirit (and also someone in need) as I also grew up on a farm. I recall being down to less than $10 when I walked into their yard. My work contribution was far outweighed by their benevolence. Their kindness and generosity has been with me always. I was fortunate to be able to visit their farm twice more many years later, once with my wife and children. If there are nicer or better people in this world, I haven’t met them.
