Obituary of Nick Nikiforuk
Please share a memory of Nick to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Nick Nikiforuk on April 4, 2016. Nick was born near Hafford, Saskatchewan, the fourth child of five to Dmytro and Katarena. He attended the local country school, played on the school baseball team and helped his parents with farm work. Nick married Helen Kowalchuk in 1940. They were married for over seventy years. Nick taught school for a few years before they purchased their own General Store. Following six years in the retail business, they decided to return to farming; initially near Radisson SK and then moving to Killam, AB in 1961 where they lived for over fifty years. Nick enjoyed reading, debating politics and current affairs, curling, playing cards, billiards, attending auction markets, cutting grass, planting potatoes and farming. He had a witty sense of humour and enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
Nick is survived by his two daughters, Gayle and Linda. He was predeceased by his wife Helen.
A private family funeral service was held with interment to take place in the Camrose Cemetery.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Daysland Hospital Foundation, 5920 - 51 Ave., Daysland, AB, T0B 1A0; All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 5402 - 53 St., Camrose, AB, T4V 1Z7; or to Providence Place, 6120 - 51 Ave., Daysland, AB, T0B 1A0.
