Obituary of Carolyn Cummings
Please share a memory of Carolyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carolyn Hilda Cummings of Camrose, formerly of Bashaw, Alberta, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016, at the age of 64 years. She will be truly missed by family and friends.
Carolyn was born in Ponoka on July 31, 1951 to Arnold and Dorothy Kraft. She grew up on a farm just down the hill from Mecca Glen School where she attended. Carolyn was the eldest of six children, with two sisters and three brothers. She loved 4H Club, collecting records and playing the guitar and piano. Her first job was as a secretary for John Deere.
Carolyn met her one true love, Barry Cummings, and was married on October 16, 1970 before moving to Edmonton. They welcomed both a son Terry on September 24, 1970 and a daughter Sharon on December 18, 1973. Carolyn then worked at the Royal Alex Hospital in Central Service. Carolyn was working full time and caring for her children as Barry worked out of town. Carolyn was baptized on September 14, 1986 and accepted the Lord. In 1989 the family moved to Fort McMurray where she cleaned houses full-time and took care of the household.
In 1990 she divorced and moved to Edmonton where she returned to the Royal Alex Hospital in Central Service. Carolyn lived with Terry in Edmonton where they spent many happy years together making memories.
She became ill in 2009 and in 2014 she moved to an apartment in Bashaw. She loved her new home but when her acute illness progressed, she moved to the Louise Jensen Care Center in Camrose. She was a very loving mother, always putting family and friends first. She was a very hard worker and a fighter to the very end. She will be treasured by all who knew her.
Carolyn is survived by her son Terry Cummings of Edmonton; daughter Sharon (Matthew) Young of Pritchard, BC; mother Dorothy Kraft; brothers Larry (Tess) Kraft of Ponoka, Wayne (Evelyn) Kraft of Ferintosh, Allen Kraft of Ponoka; and sister Dorlene (David) Banks of Drayton Valley.
She was predeceased by her father Arnold Kraft and her sister Sheila Kraft.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Louise Jensen Care Centre in Camrose, Stollery Children's Hospital or to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation.
The family wishes to thank to the staff at the Louise Jensen Care Centre who provided exceptional nursing care to Carolyn during her stay at long term care. The staff showed kindness and compassion to Carolyn and were always welcoming to her family and friends. Such devotion to those in need will not be forgotten.
