Kathleen (Kay) Estell of Camrose, Alberta passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the age of 88 years. Kay was born on July 1, 1927 in Belfast, Northern Ireland to George and Kathleen McIlveen. Kay grew up in Belfast where she took her schooling and later worked as an office clerk. In her time off she volunteered at the Royal Canadian Legion during the 2nd WW, there she met the love of her life. Kay moved to Canada and married Earl Estell (Chub) in 1947. Kay And Chub lived in Flood, BC until 1949, then moved to Mirror, where Chub went to work for the CNR. There they raised their six children. Kay stayed active in the community, volunteering her time as secretary for both PTA and the United Church, where she also sang in the choir for many years. Kay was the past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, which she was very proud of. Kay enjoyed curling, knitting, playing cards and travelling. Winters were spent in the Florida sunshine, she would love to reminisce about all the good times spent with wonderful friends, lots of laughs and fun had by all during happy hour. Kay's real passion was always to get home, to spend time with all her children and grandchildren, it was such a cherished occasion. Kay is survived by her six children, Paul (Gail), Glenn (Lorraine), Ross (Paulette), Pat (Wayne) Sorochan, Shauna (John) Boden, and Sean (Carolyn); fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great-children; one sister-in-law Lisa McIlveen; numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Kay was predeceased by her husband Chub; parents George and Kathleen McIlveen; brothers Herb and Charlie (sister-in-law Eleanor); in-laws Earl and Hazel Estell, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-laws Fred and Dorothy Estell, Paul and Irene Estell, and Mae and Percy Boyd. We want to thank all of our family and friends for their love, comfort and support, we feel so blessed. A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 28, 2016 from the Mirror Community Hall. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to The Arthritis Society at #300, 1301 - 8th Street, Calgary, AB, T2R 1B7 or at www.arthritis.ca; or to Bethany Meadows, Camrose.
