Edna Kathlene Helen Connery of Camrose, formerly of Bittern Lake, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at the age of 91 years.
Edna Kaser was born July 14, 1924 to Joshua and Katharina Kaser in the East Bittern Lake District. She was taught in the little one room school house until Grade 9, then worked in Camrose before moving to Calgary to live with her older sister Dora to find work. She got a job at Jenkins Grocery Store where she worked for a number of years and it is there she met Robert Connery. They were wed in June 1949, and that was the start of their family, Jacqueline and Richard. In 1961, Edna and Bob moved the family from Calgary to Camrose, where they both worked in the Arlington Hotel restaurant. After working at Bailey's Drug Store , she moved on to Scona Drycleaners/Palm Dairies, and later went to work at the Corner Drug Store until she decided to retire and do the things she wanted to do, such as golfing. Edna was community minded. She volunteered wherever she could…the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Moose Ladies Auxiliary, St. Mary's Hospital Gift Shop, Rosehaven and she also offered baking and meals to whoever needed it. She loved to entertain her friends and family, always baking and cooking. She was known for her great sandwiches by many. Dancing was her love and Big Band Music was her favorite choice. Robert passed away in April 2003 and several years later Deer Meadows was her new home, until January 2015 where her final move was into Sunrise Village. Edna had a full eventful life. She is survived by her daughter Jackie (Francis) Rowein; son Rick (Connie) Connery; three grandchildren Jeffrey Rowein, Jennifer McKenzie, Michael Connery; great-grandchild Austin McKenzie; and brother Gordon Kaser. She is predeceased by her siblings Minnie Soderstrom, John Kaser, Annie Soderstrom, Rudy Kaser, Dora Noga, and Charlie Kaser.
