Obituary of Patricia Devitt
Please share a memory of Patricia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Patricia Margaret Devitt of Killam passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016 at the age of 67 years.
Patricia Margaret was born on March 13, 1949 to parents George and Helen Candlish. She was the second girl of four to be born of George and Helen, with Sharon being the first, Judy the third, and Faye the fourth.
Patty spent her earlier years growing up on the farm just north Daysland and then moved to the farm on the outskirts of town. Patty attended Daysland School and completed Grade 9 and then furthered her education in Edmonton at Alberta Vocational College.
She then met the love of her life Dennis Devitt and married on May 12, 1972. At a very early age, Patty developed a very sincere love for animals, especially her personal pets which over the years were numerous but all had a special place in her heart. Her love for sewing and cooking was important to her as well and the more you could add while cooking, the far better it was going to taste, so she thought. Once they were married, they made various moves finally settling in Sedgewick. As time went on, Patty's health and mobility somewhat deteriorated and it was decided it would be in both hers and Dennis' best interest to move her to a facility where more care could be administered, thus moving her to Killam at an extended care facility where she resided until her passing on May 16, 2016. What must be mentioned is that since living in the extended care setting, Patty developed a very keen interest in knitting once again, as well as adult colouring and was extremely proficient at it.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Dennis; sisters Sharon Lohr of Chilliwack, BC, Judy Sorenson (Howard Babbs) of Forestburg, and Faye (Butch) Brausen of Daysland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Patty was predeceased by her parents George and Helen, and father and mother-in-law Wilfred and Beatrice Devitt. Patty will be sadly missed by all her family and friends and her loving pets. She has now been welcomed into the kingdom of eternal life and has joined those loved ones that have gone before her.
A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 26, 2016 from Killam Baptist Church with Rev. David Tonner officiating.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Killam Baptist Church Ladies Group, or to the Daysland Cemetery Fund.
