Obituary of Lillian Koehli

Lillian, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend, passed away on July 9, 2016 at the Daysland Hospital. She celebrated her 99th birthday with family on February 11, 2016. Her family life was spent on a farm north of Strome helping to raise chickens, eggs, pigs, milking cows, and cooking many meals for harvesting. As a grandmother, she enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and teaching them her cooking, quilting, embroidery, knitting and crocheting skills. Lillian and her husband, Hardy, retired in Daysland in 1977 and after his passing in 1987 she continued to live in their house until her family convinced her to buy a suite in Providence Place with no more lawn to cut or snow to shovel. She lived in that suite since April 2011, doing her own cooking and managing her own medications and laundry, up to the last three weeks. Mom loved to play a game of cards with any of her siblings, especially canasta when her sister Alma was staying with her. We have all had our turn at getting beat at 1:00 a.m. by those two card sharks. Lillian is survived by her daughters, Priscilla (Bill) Hawkins and Laverne (Jack) Blaeser, her son Dennis (Pat) Koehli, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, one sister, six sister-in-laws, two brother-in-laws, numerous nieces, nephews and friends of all ages. Lillian was predeceased by her husband Erhardt; sisters Edith LaFantaisie, Alma Umrysh, Helena Thomas, and brother Earl Wetthuhn. A Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 14, 2016 from the Daysland Community Hall with Rev. Bill Harder officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the charity of one's choice.
