Obituary of Jane Hennig
Please share a memory of Jane to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jane (Jean) Catherine Hennig of Camrose, formerly of Alder Flats, passed away peacefully at the age of 80, surrounded by her family, on August 22, 2016.
Jane was born in Edmonton on October 13, 1935 to William (Bill) and Lillian Pearl Milroy. She married the love of her life, Ted, in 1951. Their life together brought them to Bottrel, a small hamlet in southern Alberta. They were soon blessed with three daughters and remained in Bottrel until their jobs moved them to Cochrane. After a few years the family moved to Calgary where they remained for many years. Jean worked for one of the banks there and as a payroll officer for an oil company and developed a real love of working with finances.
A new chapter in Jean's life began when they left the city behind and went farming in Alder Flats. Jean was in her glory. Her love of gardening led her to create beautiful flower/rock gardens as well as organic vegetable and herb gardens. She also loved working with animals and they maintained an exceptional herd of cattle as well as raised chickens and pigs. You could always find a friendly cat or two to visit with. The cattle became their biggest love and they ran a cow-calf operation for many years.
Ted passed away in 2010 and Jean moved to Camrose to be near family. Other family members soon moved to Camrose and it became a home to two of her daughters, as well as a grandson and granddaughter and their families. The grandchildren and great grandchildren thought Grandma's house was the best place to visit. Her love for her family was a beautiful gift to all of us. She was always there for us, whether it was to lend a helping hand or just to listen and provide a shoulder to lean on.
Jean was an amazing woman and her thirst for knowledge brought her great happiness. She loved history and was fascinated learning about any new scientific discoveries. She was also a woman of change and was always looking for new ways to make things better. She was a huge supporter of natural health methods and worked endlessly towards having changes brought about that would provide everyone with choices and the opportunity to benefit from alternative care methods.
Jean is survived by her children Gwen Hennig of Camrose, Lil (Bryan) Auser of Limerick, Saskatchewan, and Ruth (Doug) Hauck of Camrose; five grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jane was predeceased by her husband Valentine, and siblings Bill Milroy, Jim Milroy, Clayte Milroy, and Marion "Pink" Hyde.
The family sends a very special thank you to Dr. Minders, Bici and the staff at St. Mary's hospital. The special care that they provided with such compassion was truly wonderful.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Salvation Army or to the Red Cross.
