Please share a memory of Waldemar to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Waldemar "Wally" John Wensel of Carvel, Alberta passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at the age of 77 years. Wally was born at home on the family farm, Camrose district, at 9:52 a.m. on April 3, 1939. Delivered by Dr. Smith, he was the first of three sons born to John & Ethel Wensel. Educated in Armena and Dinant, Wally's diverse career as a general contractor, financial advisor and insurance broker, and travel agent took him all over Canada with generous international travel to the Caribbean, the USA, northern Europe and Russia. Wally collected friends, business cards, travel brochures, photos, negatives and slides when that was a new technology, hotel soaps, and dust bunnies. Wally's life practices included photographing every sunset, saving every business card you exchange and wanting better for everyone than the establishment was offering in: financial advice, healthcare options, travel and tax rates. While Wally always appeared to be living for the future, he lived well, in the present. Wally was predeceased by his parents, John & Ethel, and brothers, Edward & William. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Janette (Clifford) Doering of Canmore, son Arden of Stony Plain, grandchildren Winona, Connor, Austen, and Sofia, along with numerous nieces and nephews. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, Bethlehem Lutheran Church (Edmonton) or Grace Lutheran Church (Camrose). A Funeral Service was held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 17, 2016 from Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Greg Kjos officiating. Inurnment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to Grace Lutheran Church, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to Bethlehem Lutheran Church (4638 117 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB).
