Obituary of Mitchell Bruner

Please share a memory of Mitchell to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mitchell David Bruner of Edmonton, formerly of Camrose, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the age of 46 years. Mitchell was born in the Jewish General Hospital at 1:35 a.m. He came feet first and thereafter always planted his feet firmly on the ground. At two and a half he welcomed his sister Kirsten to the family. At three and a half his parents took them to southern Germany to live, where Mitch and Kiri were joined by brother, Steven. After three years, the family returned to Canada where Melfort SK winters shocked Mitch and his siblings from cloudy Vancouver-rainy weather into minus 30 sunshine winter days. The next move was to Falun, where Mitch struggled with some health issues that made for a difficult five or six years. Finally, the family moved to Camrose where Mitch thrived at the Camrose Christian School for a year and a half before going back into the public system. Completing the IOP program in CCHS, Mitch was so excited to graduate - in a black tuxedo with a fuchsia cummerbund. He had apprenticed at the Camrose Bakery and became their night baker after school. He moved on to Tim Hortons and loved the challenge of doing bigger bakes in less time than anyone else. At the Whyte Avenue Tim Hortons, he met Angela, "the girl at the front with the big smile". Soon they were planning a Philippine wedding. The wedding was held in Bila, Mountain Province, Angela's birthplace. When in-store baking ended, Mitch left Tim Hortons for work at Home Depot filling orders for builders. After Home Depot came Totem, soon taken over by Rona, who downsized; and last November Mitch began with Igloo who provides building materials for contractors. Mitch loved working outdoors and loved the building industry. He worked hard for all of his employers and he loved to socialize with his fellow workers and loved the wide variety of food they brought for lunches. At home, Mitch loved to work with Angela - fixing, changing, adding on to the house and adding new features to the yard. Whenever possible they travelled across Alberta and beyond to camp, hike and take pictures of the beauties of creation. He was always available to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors when work needed to be done. Mitch also loved animals, including chinchilla, dogs, cats and fish - both indoor and outdoor varieties. He wanted to live as fully and die as quickly and as spectacularly as he could. We think he did all of it well. Mitch is survived by his wife, Angela; sister Kiri Kirwan (Duane, niece Megan, nephews Tristan and Liam); brother Steven (Marika, nephew and godson, Maxim); mother Signi; father Gary (Gail); aunts Barbara and Inga (Rich); uncles Dale, Duane, Ted (Barbara) and Chris (April); and several cousins. A Funeral Service was held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Deborah Taylor officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to Habitat for Humanity, or to the SPCA.
