Gordon Edwin Ellingson passed away on October 2nd, 2016 at the age of 86 years. He was predeceased less than a year ago by his beloved wife of 54 years, Esther. He is survived by daughter Nola Ellingson, son Clayton (Sherrie), and four grandsons, John-dale, Matthew, Tyler and Colton Ellingson; brothers Harold (Clysta) and Donald (Pat) and sister Ruth Ellingson all of MB; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by sisters Mabel, Julia, and Selma, and brothers Carl and Alvert. Gordon was born in Togo, SK on December 27, 1929, to John (1892-1964) and Amanda (1903-1987) Ellingson. In 1932, the family moved to the Alpine District of Manitoba. He grew up on the family farm with his eight siblings. He attended a two room school house to grade eight. In his twenties, Gordon went to Calgary to work. He worked primarily for two earthmoving construction companies, Shatto and Top Notch as a foreman and in the roles of operator, truck driver to shop assistant. They grew up just miles apart, but it was in Calgary, Gordon and Esther dated and were wed on July 8th, 1961. Clayton was born in 1962 and Nola in 1964. As a young family, in the summer they made their home in numerous locations in AB and SK where Gordon's work in road construction led, returning to Calgary to spend the winter. The winter of 1969/70 they resided in Benito, MB. In 1978, Gordon and Esther purchased their home of 31 years on Kelvin Place in Calgary. Gordon and Esther moved seven years ago to be near their children and treasured grandsons in Camrose. Since July 2013, Gordon was a resident of Juniper Cottage at the Louise Jensen Care Center. A funeral service was held on Friday October 7, 2016 at 10:00 am from the First Baptist Church (6406 44B Ave Camrose), with Rev. Dean Rostad from Resurrection Lutheran Brethren Church officiating, and Rev. Don Anderson co-officiating. Interment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to Alberta Cancer Foundation, The Gideons International or Resurrection Lutheran Brethren Church - Building Fund.
