Obituary of Robin Trach

Please share a memory of Robin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robin Trach of Camrose, formerly of New Sarepta, Alberta, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016 at the age of 55 years. Robin was born in Devon, Alta in 1961, a twin to Robert. His parents didn't have names picked out, and didn't know there were two of them, so a nurse named them. Robin was the second twin born and was the baby of the family with six brothers and sisters. They lived on the family farm near New Sarepta. He went to school in New Sarepta and graduated in 1979. Robin was involved in a lot of things during his school years. He played on most of the sports teams, but really excelled at volleyball. He was in the drama club. He played the part of the scarecrow in the "Wizard of Oz" and Hoot Owl Pete in the western "Desperate Ambrose". He got the Citizenship Award and was also the President of the Student Council in Grade 12. In 1976, there was a new girl on the school bus who was also in the same grade! Robin and Connie started "going out" in Grade 9, and that's when their romance began. Connie and her parents moved to Camrose in 1979 and Robin followed close behind. He moved in with his sister and brother-in law, Maryann and Pete. He found a job at the pipe mill, Stelco, as it was called at the time. He became a green hat (supervisor) at quite a young age. He earned the respect of many employees. Robin and Connie were married at the United Church in 1981 when they were both 19. Danny was born in 1983 and Colette in 1986. Robin remained active. He played for the New Sarepta Men's Ball Team driving back and forth for home games and later joined The McTavish Lil Truckers in Camrose. He played adult mixed volleyball in the A league and when he dropped down to B, Connie played on his team. They were very proud to win the league playoffs that year. When the children were old enough they both played ball. Robin coached Danny's team for a time and was also his Scout leader when Dan became involved with that. They went to the Alberta Jamboree in 1985 in Kananaskis. Robin coached Colette's fastball team for many years as she moved up the ranks. Many girls have fond memories of coach Robin. He sat on the ball Board too. After the kids got older and moved on to other interests, he coached the "Learn to Play" program, teaching youngsters the basics up until this past spring. Fastball was his passion! Robin retired from Camrose Pipe in 2010 after 30 years. He couldn't stay still so he got a job at the east end Co-Op gas bar working the till. He was soon lured back into the pipe business part-time. He traveled to Alabama, Mexico, Florida and various places in Alberta inspecting pipe until his diagnosis. His expertise in all he did is legendary. Robin loved to laugh and was quite a jokester as many people know. He said, "When I'm gone, have a few drinks and talk about the good times." Robin is survived by his wife, Connie; son Dan (Brenda Schmidt) of Leduc; daughter Colette (Dallas) Bendfeld of Daysland; grandchild Jase Bendfeld; brothers, Doug of New Sarepta, Robert (Loretta) of Onoway; sisters, Dianne (Lester) Herbert of Sherwood Park, Mary Ann (Pete) Pastuck of Camrose; sisters-in-law, Jeannie Trach of Calgary and Betty Trach of Sherwood Park. Robin was predeceased by his parents, Roman and Mary; mother and father in-law; Bill and Edna Davey of Camrose, two brothers, Mike and Ray; niece Cheryl McKinnon; and sister-in-law Bev Davey. A funeral service was held on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from the Camrose United Church with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. The family has requested that any ball players who were coached by Robin bring a baseball bat to help form an honour guard at the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the City of Camrose Silent Sponsor Fund to assist children who are unable to afford the cost of sports programs. Cheques may be made out to the 'City of Camrose Silent Sponsor Fund'.
