Darcy Munro was born on February 10, 1955, in Killam to Harry and Maisie Munro. He lived in the Merna district where he went to school until high school which was located in Sedgewick and furthered his education at NAIT taking Electronic Engineering. He met Shelley Olsen and they married in 1975, settling in Edmonton while he worked for AGT. In 1976 he transferred to Grande Cache before moving back closer to home in Camrose in 1981. It was there his two children were born, Michael in 1981 and Warren in 1983. In 1987 another transfer saw the family move to Fox Creek where the children were raised. Once the children were grown, Darcy transferred to Rocky Mountain House in 2005. In 2006 Darcy was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease. Shortly after, they moved to Daysland where they currently reside. When his disease did not progress as expected, he was re-diagnosed with IBM (Inclusion Body Myositis). On October 19, 2016, Darcy was hospitalized and sent to hospital in Camrose. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to Edmonton. Darcy passed away with his family by his side in the early morning of October 21, 2016 at the age of 61. Darcy is survived by his loving wife Shelley; two sons Michael (Erin) of Hinton, and Warren (Melissa) of Parkland County; seven grandchildren; brothers Doug (Dianne) of Killam and Barry (Sally) of Edmonton; sisters-in-law Debbie (Dennis) Steil of Heisler, Janet (Brett) Young of Prince George; brothers-in-law Norman (Cheryl) Olsen of Edmonton and Donald Strandberg of Leduc; along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Maisie Munro, sister Darlene Richardson and sister-in-law Donna Strandberg. A Funeral Service was held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2016 from the Alliance Church in Daysland with Pastor Bill Harder officiating. If friends and family so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to Muscular Dystrophy Canada, The Heart and Stroke Foundation, or The Daysland Hospital Foundation.
