Obituary of Orin Sand
Please share a memory of Orin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Orin Elvin Sand of Edberg was born on May 15, 1921 and passed away peacefully on December 5, 2016 at the age of 95 years.
Orin was the eldest child of Elmer and Pauline Sand of Camrose. He married Elizabeth Pearce on November 23, 1943 and together they raised two sons on the farm close to the original Sand homestead. Orin was a farmer through and through. He was always happiest when the conversation was about the land, the crops, the cattle or family. They had many close friends and enjoyed many a community dance in Edberg.
Once the boys were grown, Orin took on a different kind of challenge. They bought the Donalda hotel in the late 70's and for several years, it was known as the place to be on a Saturday night. Orin and Elizabeth built a home in Donalda during this time and were there until Elizabeth's passing in 1994. Orin moved to Camrose in the late 90's spending time with a dear friend Marie and eventually moved to Rosealta where he spent the last four years.
Orin continued to farm until the day he died. Almost every day, he was down at the farm which was now being run by Melbourne and his sons Rob and Bart. He was quick to provide guidance and advice on most topics. Even in his later years, his idea of a good day was going to the farm, checking the crops and getting on a piece of equipment when they would let him. Orin leaves to cherish his memory his two sons Melbourne Sand, and Bob (Mavis) Sand; five grandchildren Rob (Verna) Sand, Bart Sand, Byron (Audrey) Sand, Craig (Jacky) Sand and Erin (Les) Head; eleven great-grandchildren Jordan, Jared, Jenna, Jaymes, Kyle, Loryn, Alexander, Braden, Kayla, Ethan, Kadence and Drayden; sister Jean Stewart; sister-in-law Selma; and special friends Marie Swanson and Michelle Berg. He was predeceased by his parents, wife Elizabeth, two brothers Lyle and Leon, sister Verna and daughter-in-law Shirley.
Orin, you always lived life to the fullest and believed strongly that hard work and family kept you young at heart. Your strong will and zest for life will be forever missed and always remembered by your family and friends.
A Funeral Service was held on Friday, December 09, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating.
