Obituary of Carol Finley

Please share a memory of Carol to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carol Marjorie Finley (Mitchell) passed away peacefully in St. Mary's Hospital in Camrose, Alberta, December 22, 2016 at the age of 74 years. Carol was born April 29, 1942 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Carol was an only child growing up on a farm near La Riviere, Manitoba, and was a hard working farm girl. Carol shared lots of stories of driving tractor, tossing hay bales and swimming in the creek. She was also a good athlete excelling in high jump, baseball and curling to name a few. Carol made friends easily and was born sociable! She enjoyed innumerable friendships as a youth and carried many of those precious friendships throughout her life. Carol married her very best friend, Ross Finley, on April 21, 1962, in Manitou, Manitoba. Shortly thereafter the young couple moved to Edmonton where they resided for a short time, with a final move to Camrose in 1962. Carol and Ross started a family right away, Wayne James was born in 1963 and Karen Lee was born in 1966. Being the modern, independent woman - long before it was fashionable - along with raising the family, Carol worked outside the home in the accounting department of the Camrose School District. Later, she worked alongside Ross managing the accounting for their business Finley Masonry 1980 Ltd. Carol certainly enjoyed her work with the school district but working alongside Ross made them both the happiest. As the family was growing, Carol was an active member of the Moose Lodge and the United Church and, of course, supporting her children in their various school activities and sport teams. After the kids left home, Carol's available time and dedication to volunteering with organizations like Citizen Advocacy, Festival of Trees, United Church Women and Meals on Wheels grew to such a degree she received the Volunteer of the Year award in recognition of her incredible volunteer commitment. Beyond volunteering for her community, Carol loved to travel; visiting over 30 countries! Carol is predeceased by her husband Ross (1990), and continues to be celebrated by her son Wayne wife Michelle and granddaughter Kelty, and Carol's daughter Karen, husband Tyler, grandson Kaison and granddaughter Macy, and by many great friends in Camrose and the surrounding community. We are not entirely sure what the world will be like without Carol in it…but it will certainly be less interesting. A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 6, 2017 from Camrose United Church with Rev. Brian Hunter, and Rev. Liz Carter-Morgan officiating. Inurnment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to The Battle River Community Foundation, Camrose Citizen Advocacy Legacy Fund.
