Obituary of Jessie Murphy

Please share a memory of Jessie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jessie Faye (Mutchler) Murphy passed away peacefully on January 1, 2017, in Camrose, at the age of 102 years. Jessie was born on May 4, 1914, on a farm in the New Norway/Silver Creek District. She shared the workload along with her parents Lulu and Tracy; three brothers Walter, twin Ernest, and Glen; and two sisters Clara and Pearl. She always said "I liked the outside work the best". She loved the outdoors, horseback riding, playing ball, campfires, berry picking, fishing, boating, card playing and even poker. Jessie also enjoyed sewing, playing cribbage and yatzee and visiting with children as she said it made her "feel young". She said many times how her grandchildren made her proud and the greats, she hoped to know better and loved their visits too. In 1939, she married Dennis Murphy and farmed a few years in the Hudson Hope, B.C. area until Dennis began working for the Hudson's Bay Company, then moved to many posts in the North. She said she was lonely sometimes, but the native people were very accepting and was invited to many celebrations, including births and deaths where pow wows with drums beating went on day and night for days. They sometimes would call her "woman with a kind heart" for all the medical emergencies she tended to. She was a loving and caring mother, but didn't often show emotion openly and gave us plenty of choices and freedoms so we could make our own decisions. Jessie was predeceased by her parents; her husband Dennis; son-in-law Louis; and all her siblings except Pearl who passed three days after Jessie. Left to cherish her memory are her son Leon (Norma) and familyof Lloydminster; daughter Dawn Juneau and family of Camrose; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; friends and wonderful caregivers at the Louise Jensen Care Center. She was predeceased by her husband Dennis; three brothers, Walter, Glenn and Ernest Mutchler; sister Clara Barkley; and son-in-law Louie Juneau. She will live forever in the hearts of us all. A private family service has taken place. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or to the Bethany Group.
