Obituary of Lloyd Bowie

Please share a memory of Lloyd to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lloyd George Bowie of Rosalind, Alberta, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017, at the age of 93 years. Lloyd Bowie was born to Ida and George Bowie on the family farm west of Rosalind on October 21, 1923. He was the second youngest in a family of five. Lloyd married Evalene Pederson on July 6, 1946 and they spent the next 70 years together within five miles from where each were born, building a successful farm and raising a family of four boys. They began their life together on one quarter where they milked cows, raised chickens and pigs, and "scratched" out a living. He always emphasized how hard things were. They then purchased a river quarter and later bought a half section, their current home place, where they continued to expand their mixed farm. Lloyd loved baseball, playing as a boy and on into adulthood. He fostered that love in his four boys and was key to the training of the only pitcher among us, Harvey, teaching him how to throw his famous curve ball. There was a lot of baseball played on the farm. Lloyd's focus was family and farm. He had no desire to travel. He loved having everyone home to visit at family gatherings. He was a lifelong member of the Elks and a strong community supporter. His strength, courage, and determination are traits that stood out throughout his life and certainly were exhibited in his final journey. He never gave up! He is survived by his mate of seventy years, Evalene; sons Doug (Cathy), Harvey, Bill (Cindy), and Brent (Dawn) of Camrose; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and brother Allan. He was predeceased by his parents Ida and George, as well as brothers Lyle and Charles, and sister Bernice. Dad, rest in peace. You have earned it. A Funeral Service was held on Friday, January 13, 2017, at 1:00 pm at the Rosalind Community Hall with Rev. Deanna Cox officiating. Interment has taken place at the Greenview Cemetery in Rosalind. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Hospice Society of Camrose and District or to St. Mary's Hospital.
