Mirrel Nelson passed away peacefully January 13, 2017 at the age of 97 years.
Mirrel was born in Camrose, Alberta, April 5, 1919 to Arnold and Selma Nelson. He grew up on the family farm in the Kelsey community. On January 30, 1944 he married Clara Roth. Mirrel and Clara raised their boys on the family farm at Kelsey where they enjoyed the majority of their lives. Prior to farming, Mirrel attended Normal School in Camrose, taught at Norbo School (Donalda area) for 1 year and spent several years with the RCAF as a flight instructor. After retiring from the farm, Mirrel and Clara spent three years in Tanzania, Africa managing a farm for a Canadian Wheat Project by CIDA.
He is survived by his loving wife Clara, four sons Douglas (Isabella) of Canmore, Rodney (Wendy) of Kelsey, Greg (Shirley) of Lloydminster, and Dave (Karen) of Camrose, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also left to mourn his passing is his sister Evelyn Hundevad of Victoria, and sisters in-law Edna Nelson and Yvonne Nelson of Camrose.
He was predeceased by his parents Arnold and Selma, brothers Walter, Harold and Clarence, and sisters Helen Enarson, Ruth Nelson and Rose Markle.
A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 from the First Baptist Church, Camrose with Pastor Dave Cawley officiating.
