Please share a memory of Esther to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Esther Blanche Monson, 93, of Camrose, Alberta went to be with her Lord on January 14, 2017 after suffering a stroke. Her family was with her at her passing. Esther was born to William Robert and Jennie (Lackey) Lockhart on April 29, 1923 on a farm near Strome, Alberta. She was the youngest of five children and the only girl. Her brothers James, William, Noel, and her twin, Samuel predeceased her. She attended Wavy Lake School from Grade One to Nine and completed Grade Ten by correspondence. Her home continued to be on the Lockhart farm until she married, except for one year spent attending Christian Training Institute in Edmonton. Malcolm Nathaniel Monson was introduced to Esther on a blind date, arranged by mutual friends at the Ice Capades in Edmonton. They were married on July 5, 1956 in Strome, Alberta. After marrying, they farmed west of Camrose until Malcolm's passing in 1977. Together with Malcolm, Esther raised three sons. In 2012, she moved from the farm to Deer Meadows in Camrose where she reconnected with old neighbours and friends and formed many new friendships. The entire focus of her life was to walk with her Lord while serving her family and others. The kind, loving encouragement and gentleness she exhibited drew others to her. Left to mourn her passing are her sons, Allen (Alice), Paul (Patricia), Mark (Kimberley); nine grandchildren, Janina, Lauren, Nicholas, Andrew, Corbin, Juliana, Nathaniel, Everett and Jaden; and great-grandchildren Maverick and Ariya; all of whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her husband Malcolm, and brothers James, William, Noel and Samuel. A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017 from the First Baptist Church, Camrose with Pastor Dave Cawley officiating. A private family interment was held prior to the service in the Camrose Cemetery. If friends and family so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to First Baptist Church, Camrose, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
