Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Henry Neggers of Round Hill, Alberta, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at the age of 72 years.
John was born December 15, 1944 in Uden Holland. He was the third child of Frans and Bertha Neggers. John came to Canada in 1969, while staying in Edmonton with family, he met the love of his life Evelyn. They married on December 18, 1971 in Edmonton. On January 11, 1977 they welcomed their first child Charlotte and on September 26, 1978 they welcomed their son Brett.
John began his life in Canada doing odd jobs and finally, when he came to Edmonton, he began his career as a cabinet maker. Using skills he learned from his Dad and Uncles he built many custom pieces of furniture and cabinets. One day he decided he did not want to do that anymore and so he looked for a new career. He came across an ad for a herdsman position in the Tofield area. He went and got the job with no experience other than his wits. He moved his family to the Wideman farm in 1982. He learned quickly how to milk, calve, feed and care for cows. He had a heart attack in 1985 and moved off the farm to heal and took a job at the Schafer farm north of Ryley once he had healed from his heart attack. In 1987 he moved his family back to the Wideman farm and continued to work there until 1990 when his health turned. He moved his family to Round Hill. There he and Evelyn purchased the acreage they were renting. The family under John's guidance fixed up the house and built a garage. John still loved working with animals and got some calves to raise on the acreage. He also helped his farmer friends with their animals when they had troubles with them.
In 2014, Evelyn suffered a brain aneurysm. John sat by her side everyday while she recuperated. Once she was able to be released from the hospital, John took her home and took care of her on his own. He did this until November 2016 when he was struck down with illness.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Evelyn; children Charlotte (Niel) Nickel of Hardisty and Brett (Tammy Parkin) of Hardisty; one grandchild Anika Nickel; brother Cor (Betsy) Neggers of Uden, Holland; and sisters Francien (Adrian) Gloudemans of Uden, Holland, Trees (Mari) Van Hoenselaar of Oss, Holland.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frans and Bertha; one infant brother; and one nephew Herbert Gloudemans.
A Funeral Service was held on Monday January 30, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. from Bardo Lutheran Church in Tofield, Alberta, with Rev. Garfield Vikse officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted sent directly to S.T.A.R.S. Air Ambulance.
