Winona Lorraine Solverson of Camrose, formally of New Norway, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at the age of 83 years.
Winona Lorraine was born in Edberg, Alberta on March 20th, 1933 to Richard and Hilda Sikstrom. Winona was surrounded by her children during her last days and passed away peacefully.
Winona came from a large and happy family, with seven sisters and one brother. She enjoyed her years at school, local dances and running a restaurant in Edberg with her sister Ruth. It was there that she met her husband, Donald Solverson. Winona married Don on August 20th, 1954. They spent most of their married life in New Norway where they worked and raised a family of six. Winona's life in New Norway evolved around her children and grandchildren. She was a loving and caring mother. As a grandmother, her grandchildren could usually be found at her house after school having floats and grilled cheese sandwiches. Winona was also active in her community, serving on the New Norway Community Club until her retirement, and as a member of the Curling Club in her younger years.
Winona's career consisted of positions in a number of New Norway businesses. She worked at the hotel as a cook for many years, at the local Post Office, and as a clerk at the Grocery Store.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Rick (Sharon), Donna (Rick) Garvin, Doug, Bob, Kevin (Judy), Karen (Ulf) Dahlin; thirteen grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sister Ruth Hasiuk. Winona was predeceased by her husband Donald; son Colin; great-grandson Jakob; son-in-law Ray; parents; six sisters; and one brother.
Winona was a wonderful woman who will be missed by everyone who knew her.
