Obituary of Sheila Streberg
Please share a memory of Sheila to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sheila Rae Streberg of Camrose passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the age of 79 years.
Sheila was born January 6, 1938 in Edmonton, Alberta to Harold and Elsie Phillips of Calmar, Alberta. She was the youngest of four children and spoiled by her brothers and sister. Sheila finished her high school in Calmar and then continued on to Edmonton General Hospital to pursue a career in nursing. Along the way she met the love of her life Gerry Streberg. They married on November 7, 1959. Sheila and Gerry moved to Lethbridge and in 1963 Brad came into their lives. After Lethbridge they moved to Camrose and in 1966 Mona arrived on the scene. Sheila became active in the community serving on the golf executive and Kinettes. In 1985, Sheila and Gerry moved to Phoenix Arizona and operated a bar called The Loft for several years. They then sold the bar and built their retirement house on a golf course in Surprise, Arizona. Unfortunately Gerry passed away in 1996 and Sheila lost her golf partner. Although it was hard to leave her son Brad and grandson Shawn, in 2000 Sheila moved back to Camrose to be closer to Mona, Barry and their children Kalyn, Karli and Conrad and her many friends and relatives. After Sheila moved back to Camrose she enjoyed golfing, playing cards and watching her grandchildren participate in their sporting events. She also became an active member of the Camrose Senior's Center. It was there that she met Vern Linzmeyer. Vern became a great companion for Sheila and they enjoyed a lot of great times together. Sheila's best vacation was a trip with Vern to Hawaii. She said she absolutely loved that trip and would love to do it again. Unfortunately in 2014 Sheila was diagnosed with dementia and was placed in Rosehaven in West Court Lane where she remained to her passing.
Brad and I have broken hearts at the loss of our mom but we are happy that her pain is gone and she is reunited with our dad Gerry. We would like to thank Vern Linzmeyer for being such a great companion and faithful to our mom and visiting her every day. You are one of a kind Vern and we are fortunate to have you in our lives. Thank you also to West Court Lane for the care of our mom right to her last breath. We know she went peacefully.
Left to cherish Sheila's memory are her children Brad (Dawne) Streberg of Phoenix, Arizona and Mona (Barry) Phillips of Camrose; five grandchildren Shawn and Grayson Streberg of Phoenix, Arizona, and Kalyn Wilson (Perry Yurkoski), Karli and Conrad Phillips of Camrose; Sheila's companion Vern Linzmeyer of Camrose; brother Verne (Phyllis) Phillips of Edmonton; sister Jerane Germaniak of Leduc; in-laws Doreen (Bob) Walline of Camrose, Otto (Marlene) Streberg of Camrose, and Dennis Streberg (Murial) of Osoyoos, B.C.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Sheila was predeceased by her husband Gerald "Gerry"; infant daughter Susan; parents Harold and Elsie Phillips; brother Harley Phillips; nephews Harley Page and Dwayne Phillips; brothers-in-law Harry Kuntz, Bob Agrey, Peter Germaniuk; sisters-in-law June Agrey and Irene Streberg; niece Shauna Streberg.
A Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 1, 2017 from Camrose United Church with Rev. Mary Ann Pastuck and Rev. Liz Carter-Morgan officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Camrose Cemetery at a later date.
