Obituary of Joseph Banack

Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joseph Francis Banack was born on April 2, 1932, the 15th child of Frank and Mary Banack. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Daysland Hospital on April 16, 2017 at the age of 85 years. His life's work included mining in the Yukon, various jobs while living in Ontario, healthcare aid at Rosehaven, crop adjustor, laborer at Stelco, and most-loved…farming. He met his lifelong partner, Margarethe Lovrod, while she was teaching in Round Hill. They married on July 18, 1953 and welcomed eight children into their world over the next thirteen years. In his retirement years, Dad (Grandpa Joe), enjoyed his vegetable and flower gardens. He was the self-acclaimed "Sweet Pea King" and many people were the beneficiaries of a bouquet of sweet peas. His vegetable garden was always huge because he knew there were so many people with which to share the produce. His sport was hockey - coaching when the boys were younger and in later years, watching and cheering on his Maple Leafs. Dad was the pillar of our family. He was a kind, generous man who was accepting of all who came into his life. He was especially proud of all his grandchildren and great grandchildren and thoroughly enjoyed their visits. His door was always open for a coffee, a meal or an overnight stay. He loved and took great pleasure in having the farm house full of family, friends and neighbours at holiday times. Left to cherish his memory are his children Marilyn (Larry) Cryderman of Bawlf, Chuck (Mary) of Vegreville, Tony (Joanne) of Victoria, BC, Mark (Wendy) of Grande Prairie, Sheila (Phil Landry) of Hay Lakes, Susan (Randy) Terway of Bawlf, and Jeff (Sharon) of Bawlf; eighteen grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother Adam; and sister Marion (Rodney) Johnson of St. Albert. Joe was predeceased by his wife Margarethe; parents Frank and Mary Banack; two granddaughters Charlotte and Sabrina; son Greg; brothers Stanley, Eddie, Rudy, Casmer, Frank, Tony, Mickey, Louis, and William; and sisters Anne, Alice, Helen, Frances, Josie, and Mary. Rest in peace Dad. We know you are happy to finally be re-united with (in your own words)… "my Margarethe". Blessed be your memory. A Funeral Service was held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 24, 2017 from CityLights Church with Rev. Bill Harder officiating. Interment has taken place in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to Haying in The 30`s (Cancer Support Society Box 35 Mallaig, Alberta T0A 2K0), the Cross Cancer Institute, or to St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
