Obituary of Irma Noden

Please share a memory of Irma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Irma passed away peacefully at the Louise Jensen Center in Camrose on May 31, with her husband at her side. She was 85 years of age. Irma was born on the family farm southeast of Camrose, on November 8, 1931, to Karl and Alma Luz. She was the 8th of 12 children. She attended Daresbury Country School. She met the love of her life, Douglas Noden at a "Farm Young Peoples Week" in Edmonton, and was married on July 9th, 1952, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Camrose. They honeymooned in Banff National Park. Doug and Irma raised 3 children, Bonnie, Robert and Andrew, on the family farm at Duhamel. She loved baking, sewing and gardening, putting away enough produce to feed the family year round. But her lilies, in later years, were her passion. She also helped out on the farm in planting and harvest seasons, even driving combine when necessary. Irma was involved in many United Church activities in both Duhamel and New Norway, including: leading the local CGIT group, working with UCW, and serving on various church board positions over the years. One of her pet Church projects involved making many pies with the ladies of the Zion United Church. The apples came from the apple tree in the farm yard, and the pies were then sold, with the money going to the Zion United Church. She had many interests, one of which was making purses and selling them at farmers markets throughout central Alberta. After quitting the purse business, she moved on to making quilts, a project she also enjoyed. She learned to drive so that she could take kids to hockey in the winter, and softball and baseball in the summer. She was also involved in various other school activities throughout the school year. Irma leaves to cherish her memory: Doug, her loving husband of 64 years; her children Bonnie (Dave) Whitford, and Andrew (Susan) Noden; her grandchildren Jason (Julie) Whitford, Lynn (John) Weiss; great-grandchildren Scott, Dallas, Ashley, Rachael, and Mackenzie; and sisters Ella Gunderson and Eileen (Rod) Lindburg. Irma was predeceased by her son Robert; her parents Karl and Alma Luz; three brothers, Art, Wally, and Emil; and six sisters Freida, Bertha, Lena, Alice, Susie, and Katie. A Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 8, 2017 from Camrose United Church with Rev. Liz Carter-Morgan officiating. Inurnment has taken place in the New Norway Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Duhamel Historical Society, STARS, or to Louise Jensen Care Centre.
