Obituary of Dawn Grue
Please share a memory of Dawn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dawn Marie Grue was born on September 16, 1961 in Red Deer, Alberta. She passed away suddenly in the early morning hours of June 8th, 2017 after a long battle with heart disease at the age of 55. Left to cherish her memory are her husband James; children Stephanie (Chris) of Calgary, Levi of Sherwood Park, and Brenden (Kaitlyn) of Sherwood Park; and seven grandchildren who kept her smiling every day! She is also survived by her siblings Pamela (Marty) Proctor of Calgary, and Todd (Tania) Severson of Edmonton; mother-in-law Ruth Grue; numerous nieces and nephews and stepbrothers Zane Vowles and family, Bob Keohane and family, Michael Keohane and family, and Danny Keohane and family. Dawn was predeceased by her parents Ronald and Betty Severson and father-in-law Evert Grue and step-sister Jennifer Vowles. Dawn should be remembered as a woman with a huge sense of humour and a genuine kindness to everybody she met. She was a very giving person and her home was always open to everyone. She was a very talented singer/songwriter and guitarist and loved the opportunity for a good jam session. In her early years she performed at many venues and was featured as Junior Klondike Kate at the Edmonton Exhibition as a child entertainer. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. From playing silly with the little girls to joking and teasing with the older boys, there was nothing more precious to her. Her love for them will not be forgotten.
One of Dawn's closest friends was her brother Todd. They were almost inseparable. If Todd wasn't at work, he was with Dawn. The two of them were 'partners in crime' without the crime. One month and one day after Dawn passed away, Todd suffered a massive heart attack and a stroke which took his life. The family was shocked that he didn't get a second chance. Once again they are together. They will be sadly missed by all.
A Funeral Service for Dawn Grue was held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, July 22, 2017 from Scandia Lutheran Church, Armena, with Rev. Charlotte Strecker-Baseler officiating. Inurnment has taken place in the Scandia Cemetery.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Stollery Children's Hospital or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
