Obituary of Shirley Palko

Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Shirley Ann Palko was born June 4, 1940 and passed away peacefully in the early morning of June 10, 2017 with her husband Tony and children Greg and Gail by her side at St. Mary's Hospital in Camrose. Shirley grew up in the Medicine Hat and Rolling Hills, Alberta area. Shirley then married and moved to Scandia, and finally to the Camrose area. She loved the acreage and farm life and spent many hours in her garden and yard. She loved her flowers and watching and feeding the birds. She loved to play crib and be surrounded by friends, family and especially her grandchildren. She was a fantastic cook and loved to bake. No one made a better apple pie! The coffee was always on and the door always open for friends and neighbors. She loved and looked forward to going to Arizona each winter where many friendships grew and remain. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, wife and friend. Mon was the pillar and glue of our family. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Tony; son Greg (Karin) Greke of Okotoks, grandchildren Dalton and Kaci; daughter Gail (Jason) Gates of Camrose, grandchildren Ashley (Jason) McIsaac and Ryan Shott (Lindsay Underwood); brother Harvey (Ruth) Baumann of Airdrie; sister Beverley (Don) Avery of Bassano; and sisters-in-law Bev Palko and Olga Palko. Shirley was predeceased by her parents August and Helen Baumann; mother-in-law Maria Palko; father-in-law John Palko; and brother-in-law Jerry Palko. Shirley was a wonderful woman with a gentle soul who will be missed by everyone who knew her. A Funeral Service was held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, June 16, 2017 from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Deacon Doug Tien officiating. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to St. Mary's Hospital, or to the Cross Cancer Institute.
